The Good Soldier Svejk’s Room

  • A collage showing the good soldier's room
  • The artist Kostas Koutsiaftis beside his artwork, a collage showing the good soldier's room

Svejk is Jaroslav’s Hasek character from his unfinished (because of his death) book “The Good Soldier Svejk”.

Svejk lives in Prague when World War I, begins. His occupation in his civilian life is the transformation of stolen dogs from the streets of Prague, to pedigree dogs for his clients, the typical bourgeois of Prague.

Svejk`s verbal skills, quick wits, charm, calm and the all ability to talk himself out of difficult situations were gifts borrowed from his author. This very strategy for survival was something that both Svejk and his creator shared. Both were also outgoing and sociable persons liked to tell stories and to entertain while drinking their beer…

Collage, (dim. 42 cm x 59,4 cm). The border design detail was taken from Giotto`s affresco “Andata di Cristo al Calvario”, (1300-1305), Cappella degli Scrovegni, Padova. Created in December 2016 during Dr. architect`s Luca Galofaro workshop for University of Thessaly postgraduate program in Architectural Design.
